Illegal Hostels?
Interesting article on the increasing number of illegal hostels in Australia. Backpackers who live in these hostels don't seem to mind but it's apparently costing the country a lot of money.
"Most illegal hostels are unlicensed residential premises providing an average of three bedrooms with three beds per room. In some buildings in Sydney, up to 75 per cent of apartments are operating illegally as hostels."
"'We pay just over $100 a week. There are 10 of us living here, two bathrooms and five bedrooms,' Ms Bell, 21, said, eating a bowl of pasta in the crowded kitchen of the terrace house.
'It's great, it's definitely cheaper than a hostel. I would rather have a homely environment where you can get a good night's rest than stay in a hostel with hundreds of people,' she said. "
